Le Matrioske quartet “porta u sonu” “brings the sound”!
Their repertoire includes songs and dance music from the Sicilian tradition, reinterpreted with new blossoms that merge past and present to shape the roots without distorting them. A tribute to the ancient and lively dance halls of Sicily and the agro-pastoral contexts of the Island’s small towns.
Le Matrioske’s music is that you can hear in Sicilian parties, weddings, barbershops, during work related to fields or the sea. It’s the sounds present in Sicilian communities where dances constituted, and in some cases still are, a precious identity heritage: Sciatamarra from Caltavuturo (mazurka), scotis from Madonie, Musetta polka from Enna, ballettu/tarantella from Peloritani, waltzes, and even the very entertaining cuntraddanza cumannata!
