Domenico Sasia and Gianluca Andreis started studying piano accordion when they were children, at the age of 6.
Years of study were dedicated to mastering the instrument’s technique, focusing on a repertoire of classical music and Piedmontese folk dances, participating in workshops and competitions in Italy and abroad. Born in an Alpine region and raised within Occitan culture, they are drawn to the vast repertoire of traditional music from their Valle Varaita, starting to play together for local festivals and events, playing in concerts and dance nights even outside the region. They are official performers at the “Baio” – a traditional festival that takes place every five years – and for several years, they have been teaching at the Cultural Association “Lu Cunvent,” one of the few centers in Italy dedicated to traditional music education.
The duo, consisting only of accordions, has developed a repertoire of traditional dances from Valle Varaita and beyond, with arrangements focused on innovation, while still maintaining the traditional groove.
