Ballaveu is a duo that explores the practice of dance songs in the Catalan language.
The voices of Patri and Xavi intertwine, chase each other, engage in dialogue, and interpret the traditional Catalan repertoire from north to south and east to west balls plans from Pallars, jotes from the Ebro, habaneras from Empordà, ballets and sardanes from the Catalan inland, without forgetting the couple dances performed in town squares and dance halls across the country), accompanied by guitar and traditional percussion.
An intriguing sound, with the voice as the only melodic instrument, a challenge that allows Patri and Xavi to showcase their experience and technique. Two “authentic” voices, connected and harmonious, that will touch the audience’s hearts.
In 2016, they released their first CD, titled FLORS I VIOLES.
In 2017-2018, they collaborated with the Basque accordionist Kepa Junkera, contributing to his last two albums before he left the stage (FOK, 2017 and KIRINEOC, 2018).
In 2019, they released their second CD, again dedicated to Catalan dance, titled BALL DE NIT.
In 2021, they won the Enderrock 2021 Award for the best Catalan folk song with “Dalt del coche | Un, dos, rat”, two nursery rhymes set to a scottish dance rhythm.
